My name’s Paul Dixon and I’m a web designer and gaming addict from Preston, Lancashire. I created www.comparegameprices.co.uk to make life easier and cheaper for gamers. My aim was simple. I wanted to make the whole process of finding games in stock at the best prices as fast and easy as possible.
I’ve always loved games and have fond memories of playing Blitz on the Commodore VIC-20 when I was 6! I still have a soft spot for it now. Blitz was your classic bomb drop game. The aim was to fly over skyscrapers and bomb them to oblivion. The beauty of Blitz was its simplicity. I had no control over the plane itself! Just a single key to drop the bombs. Each time you did a fly run, the plane dropped lower in the sky until you crashed into any skyscrapers still standing. Check it out on YouTube.
I soon graduated to the Sinclair Spectrum and then a few years later the Atari ST. As consoles and handhelds started to grow in popularity, I couldn’t resist the charms of the Nintendo Gameboy, Super Nintendo & Sega Mega Drive. Then a few years after that came the pioneering Playstation 1, the Nintendo 64 and the Xbox. My main console at the moment is the Playstation 3.
If you’ve found this site, chances are you’re a gamer or looking to buy a game for someone like me. If so, you’ll be aware that buying games can be a bit expensive. Prices for one title can vary massively, particularly for the latest releases. It’s common to see a difference of £10-£15 between retailers – money that could be used for your next purchase!
I’ve thought long and hard about what gamers want and need. My site includes special features designed to save time and money.
Choose between specialist stores such as game.co.uk and Game Seek. Check out deals from high street shops including Argos and Toysrus. Find out what catalogue retailers Very and Littlewoods have to offer. Or see if online retailers Amazon, HMV, Play.com (and many more) will do you a better deal.
You’ll also get the chance to discover who has your game at the best price and if they have it in stock. It’s really easy. All you have to do is enter the name of your game in the search box at the top of each page. Select your preferred platform (Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, etc.), hit search and you’ll see the results instantly.
Check out the dedicated page for your platform and see what’s capturing gamers’ imaginations right now. Get up to speed on the latest releases and find out about release dates for future games.
I’ve added this free feature to every single product page. If you’re hunting for a specific game but don’t want to pay top price, just enter the figure you’re willing to part with. If the game does drop below the price you entered, you’ll get an email stating its price and a link to the relevant retailer’s page. This feature is great for new and recent releases, which are often priced around £35-39.99. If for example you’re willing to wait until it hits the £30 (or less) mark, the price alert feature will keep you posted. You can track multiple games at any one time for up to 6 months. All you have to do is provide an email address and password.
I’m always hunting for deals and offers and will share them with the gaming community right here. From buy one get one free offers to price reductions, sales and voucher codes, I don’t miss a trick! Bear in mind that deals and special offers tend to have time limits, so check the date of posting on the site. I can’t guarantee the deal will still be running.
All offers I find will be tweeted so make sure you follow me on Twitter too.
