Brilliant!!!!!!! - (5/5)

If you realise what this can do for your PS2, buy it! The "Evo edition" is a bit more expensive and is worth the extra $$$ if you don't have a pendrive of your own, otherwise this one is all you need (the AR MAX disc is the same in both versions)

This thing lets you play megadrive games on your ps2, it lets you play any region dvds and it allows you to download game saves off the net to enhance your gaming. It can also load your mp3 cds (or off pendrive), divx and avi videos. What's more if your videos are in mpeg format etc, the PC software that comes with it will convert all your files to the type that Action Replay will recognise.

This thing revolutionalises the way you use your PS2 - it opens the door for a higher level of gaming and I haven't even mentioned the 30,000+ cheats that are on there - all in an easy-to-use interface that's idiot-proof.

This does exactly what it says it does - and more! - a bargain at this price - most other places sell it £19.99.

Dissapointing - (1/5)

This product was an honest letdown.The first time i used it it was great.All the cheats worked and i got excellent progress in my game.I turned off my game and went to play the next day.When i turned it on,and tried to scroll to my save file,the arrows spazzed and went way past my file uncontrollably.When i FINALLY got my game loaded,My player ran the wrong direction,the menus did the same thing as the load screen, and the music skipped.I tried a different game,and the same exact thing happened to me on that one.Now my whole PS2 is messed up and i have to get it totally reformatted.Thank you,AR Max.

it's great but you should get the EVO edtion instead - (4/5)

i bought action replay max evo and it's great. all the cheats i put in saved fine and with the MAXDrive you can update all the cheats without having to do much. i don't know whether the other reviewer had some problems with this cheat system but it works fine for my friend and i. I know that the EVO edition is a bit more but it is definately worth the money.

not as good as it should be... - (2/5)

There are some major problems with this new release of AR max...
1st there are 50,000 pre-loaded cheats on the disk, fine... try to put your own one in and of course it wil let you but it will not save to the memory card so you are stuck with having to re-type the whole cheatcode in after every reset! DOH.

Another downer is the max media creator that you install onto the pc. After trying to convert different avi files to play via a cdr the footage was skipping all over the place. after many times trying to set the files to convert at all the different bit-rates i still could not get a good conversion, result: useless movie clips and wasted cd-rs.
One good thing is that it comes with the obligatory dvd region free software, but even this takes an age to load, (Blaze released one a while back and sets up in half the time).

I have not used the memory-card compression program so i can't comment on that, or the broadband auto-update for the cheats, as you need a network adaptor for that.

so, in conclusion, as long as you want to cheat the games that are already loaded onto the disk, fine. But beware the tiresome need to re-enter the code every playtime as it refuses to save. BE WARNED!
